yovng may Just two instruments, but in the hands of skilled artists and magic happens. How much energy is in this! An incredibly subtle and ornate composition in an incredibly sensual performance. Such a powerful development and culmination! Every time I hear this I shed tears of delight. Thank you ❤ Favorite track: Drought.

about

Yom and Wang Li’s equipment of thought is the pursuit of the highest common denominator: telluric might, elegant virtuosity, huge soul’s appetite and unquenchable thirst for spirituality.
One hails from China, is a self-taught Jew’s harp player and only performs solo. The other one was born and lives in Paris, was classically trained on the clarinet, and now plays Jewish music from Eastern Europe with other musicians.
The mutual taming of these two Eastern –yet so far apart– spheres was a long enterprise, with much babbling, rumbling and onomatopoeia. After a “silent transformation” – to use François Jullien’s expression– Yom and Wang Li have created their own musical lexicon: a new language, neither Sino-Jewish nor Judeo-Chinese; a language at the same time really traditional, truly contemporary and vehemently respectful.
In the troubled and disturbing times we live in, this confrontation and closeness also involves their shared fear of drifts towards nationalism as well as their concerns about the damage inflicted by humans upon nature.
Green Apocalypse is therefore a human and aesthetical conclusion, a musical and environmental manifesto.

There is also a shorter version of this story:

Some time ago, a Jew and a Chinese (neither precludes the other) met at the Museum of Indigenous Art and decided to work together.
Both of them are lovers of traditional music and new technology, both of them are driven by spiritual concerns and climate worries.
Since this first meeting, they have developed mutual friendship and respect. Hence their decision to make an environment-friendly album together, and to declare themselves fit to represent present-day France (although not at the Eurovision contest).
